Gor Mahia’s search for a new head coach has narrowed, with Brazilian Roberto Oliveira Goncalves emerging as the leading candidate to replace Dylan Kerr.
The Kenyan champions are looking for a foreign trainer after Kerr departed the club and later joined South Africa’s Black Leopards.
Reports from Rwanda said Oliveira, who was then in charge of Rayon Sport, moved to the front of the queue after talks with Belgian coach Luc Eymael fell through.
Eymael, who has previously managed AFC Leopards, said he would not be taking the Gor Mahia job despite speaking with the club chairman by phone.
“I spoke to the (Gor Mahia) chairman on phone about the opportunity but can confirm to you that I will not be coming there (in Kenya) to work. I will let you know when I sign for another club. That will be the right time because I have several other offers to consider,” Eymael has been quoted saying.
Other names still in contention were Briton Jamie Day and stand-in coach Zedekiah Otieno, who was expected to lead the team against Malawi’s Nyasa Bullets in the Caf Africa Champions League preliminaries on November 28.
