BBC Africa strengthened its Kenyan presence by bringing in a group of familiar media names from local stations. The moves reflected the broadcaster’s push to build out its Nairobi-based operations with experienced journalists.
Lynne Wachira was among the first to make the switch from a local newsroom to BBC. She had previously worked as a sports reporter and anchor at KTN.
Larry Madowo moved from NTV, where he covered technology, current affairs, political interviews and entertainment. He later became BBC’s Africa business editor.
Zawadi Mudibo, who had served as deputy business editor at Media Max, also joined BBC Africa.
Hudheifa Aden left Nation Media Group after working as an NTV business reporter. The report said he was expected to work closely with Larry Madowo, his former NTV colleague.
Ian Wafula also exited K24 to join BBC after several earlier attempts to secure a place there. He eventually succeeded on a later try.
Ciru Muriuki left K24 as well and moved to BBC Africa. The report said the move reunited her with Larry Madowo, her close friend, and with Ian Wafula, a former K24 colleague.
