Amazon has confirmed a data breach that exposed customer names and email addresses on its website just days before Black Friday.
The company said it has fixed the problem and contacted customers who may have been affected. It did not disclose how many people were impacted or where they are based.
In its statement, Amazon said: “We have fixed the issue and informed customers who may have been impacted.”
Some customers were also told in an email that the site “inadvertently disclosed your email address or name and email address due to a technical error.” Amazon added that the issue was fixed and said there was “no need for you to change your password or take any other action.”
The company said: “Amazon takes all security-related matters very seriously and your account security is our top priority.” It also said it has “policies and security measures in place to ensure that your personal information remains secure.”
The breach comes two days before Black Friday, one of Amazon’s biggest sales periods.
