Xiaomi has trimmed prices on a number of phones in Kenya, putting the Redmi 6A, Redmi 6, Mi A2 and Mi 8 in sharper focus for buyers looking for value in 2018.
The company’s renewed push in the local market has leaned heavily on affordable devices, with the latest discounts aimed at making its lineup more accessible across the budget and midrange segments.
Redmi 6A targets buyers under KES 10,000 ¶
The Redmi 6A is the cheapest of the group and is positioned for shoppers with less than KES 10,000 to spend. It comes with a 5.45-inch 18:9 display, a size that stands out in a market dominated by larger phones.
It is listed on Jumia at KES 9,399.
Redmi 6 adds more hardware for a higher price ¶
The Redmi 6 steps up from the 6A with a fingerprint scanner, dual rear cameras, and more storage and memory. The base model is described as offering 32GB of storage and 3GB of RAM.
The device is available on Jumia from KES 12,999 for the 3GB RAM version.
Mi A2 brings stock Android and stronger midrange appeal ¶
For buyers willing to spend between KES 20,000 and KES 30,000, the Mi A2 offers a cleaner software experience through the Android One program. It ships with vanilla Android 8.1 Oreo rather than Xiaomi’s MIUI skin, and it is expected to receive Android 9 Pie in a timely manner.
The phone is priced at KES 22,199 for the 4/32GB model and KES 28,999 for the 6/18GB model. Xiaomi also ships a 3.5 mm dongle because the handset does not include a headphone jack.
Mi 8 remains the flagship bargain ¶
The Mi 8 is still one of the few Xiaomi phones offering flagship-level specifications for less than KES 50,000. It sells for KES 44,999 on Jumia and includes a notched display, dual cameras and an AMOLED screen.
With the Poco F1 expected to arrive in shops soon, the Mi 8 remains the brand’s strongest premium-value option in the Kenyan market.
