LG Electronics East Africa says Kenya remains a key market, with the company leaning on local partners as it expands its consumer business and product range.

Managing Director Janghoon Chung said the company wants to keep delivering quality products and broader portfolios at prices that remain competitive in the market.

“As the LG business in Kenya continues to grow, the company anticipates it will continue to expand its portfolio of brands within Kenya which should enable LG’s economic investments in the form of marketing spending and distribution capabilities into Kenya grow consistent with the business,” said Chung.

He made the remarks ahead of the 2018 Korea Consumer Goods Showcase, where 150 Korean businesses were set to display consumer products. The two-day expo was organised by the Korean Embassy in Nairobi and the Korea Business Center (KOTRA), a Korean government agency that promotes trade and investment between Korea and the world.

The event was designed to expose Kenyan businesses and consumers to Korean lifestyle products, technology, beauty and food. For LG, it also offered a platform to pursue business partnerships while giving shoppers a chance to see its consumer products and newer technology.

LG said it had rolled out the Instaview refrigerator in East Africa during the year. The model is known for its glass panel, knock-on feature that reduces cold air loss, and premium design. The company also introduced the TwinWash machine, which it said uses award-winning laundry technology.

LG Electronics has also positioned itself around energy-saving products and Internet of Things devices, which it sees as part of the next wave of home technology.
