Comedian JB Masanduku says his split from radio personality Tina Kaggia was driven by a rushed start to their relationship and a marriage that could not hold.
In an interview on Kiss FM with Massawe Japanni, Masanduku said he is now in a new relationship and described it as open and stable compared with his previous marriage.
He said the relationship with Tina moved quickly from the start. According to him, he proposed after 11 days of knowing her, shortly after meeting her during a voice test at Radio Jambo.
Masanduku said the two later treated the relationship lightly at first, even posting about it on social media, before deciding to formalize it after public backlash. He added that they went to Tina’s parents and held a wedding despite her being seven years older than him.
The couple married in October 2013 in a low-key ceremony at the Attorney General’s chambers, attended only by family and close friends.
He said the marriage lasted three years and produced two children, but it eventually failed.
I am legally divorced, although at first we had agreed to do it privately without involving the court and the public. Then one day, I received a call from people asking to give me some job as an MC, which I agreed.
Masanduku said the divorce process became public after he was invited for what he thought was an MC job. He said that when he arrived, he found Tina Kaggia’s lawyer and a police officer, who served him with divorce papers.
He said he was later required to attend court mentions before the divorce was finalized.
