HMD Global has launched the Nokia 5.1 Plus in Kenya, placing the smartphone in selected retail outlets at an estimated price of Ksh 24,000.
The company says the device is aimed at users looking for a mix of gaming performance, AI imaging and a modern design at a lower price point. It features a 5.8-inch edge-to-edge HD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio, a dual rear camera setup and portrait-style imaging tools, including bokeh blur and portrait lighting.
According to HMD Global, the phone uses a 13MP main camera paired with a 5MP depth sensor, while the front camera is 8MP. The handset also includes electronic video stabilisation and phase detection autofocus for clearer photos and steadier video capture.
Gopher Ogembo, Business Manager, East Africa, HMD Global, said the company wanted to make gaming and entertainment more accessible to a wider audience.

The phone is powered by the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset and comes with 3 GB RAM, 32 GB of internal storage and support for microSD cards of up to 400 GB. It also includes face recognition and fingerprint security, along with the Android One experience, which HMD Global says provides three years of monthly security patches and two years of operating system updates after launch.
HMD Global said the Nokia 5.1 Plus is ready for Android Pie and is available in Gloss Black, Gloss White and Midnight Gloss Blue. The company also listed a 3060 mAh battery, a 2.5D glass body and a metal structure that it says has been tested for durability in extreme temperatures and drop conditions.
