The International Monetary Fund has said it will help Mozambique examine its corruption challenges and pressed the country to hold people accountable for previously undisclosed debts.
Mozambique admitted in 2016 that it had taken on $1.4 billion in hidden loans. The disclosure led the IMF to suspend support and set off a currency collapse and debt default.
The fund also said any future agreements with holders of those undisclosed debts must put Mozambique back on a sustainable debt path.
It added that it expects Mozambique’s economy to grow by between 4 percent and 4.7 percent next year.
