Nairobi county ordered the demolition of a seven-storey building along Kayole Spine Road after safety concerns were raised over the structure at Bee Centre, Umoja.
The alarm was triggered when a photo of the building, described as visibly faulty, circulated on social media in 2018. County officials then moved to enforce action against the developer.
An enforcement notice issued on November 9 required the developer to demolish the block, stop any further construction immediately, and submit the relevant architectural and structural documents. The notice also gave seven days for the structural integrity report to be filed.
That deadline expired on Wednesday, November 16.
The county action came as Nairobi continued a wider demolition drive targeting unsafe buildings and developments on riparian land, although the campaign had reportedly slowed because of a lack of funds.
Earlier demolitions in the city had included Airgate Centre, also known as Taj Mall, in Embakasi, South End Mall on Langata Road, Ukay Centre, and part of Oshwal Centre in Westlands. In Kileleshwa, walls of several residential apartments were also pulled down.
