Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi ordered Starehe MP Charles Njagua, known as Jaguar, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino out of the National Assembly on Thursday after they failed to apologise over their October 2017 clash.
The directive came after the Parliamentary Privileges Committee, chaired by Speaker Justin Muturi, had in June instructed the two lawmakers to seek forgiveness for the incident.
Cheboi told the chief sergeant-at-arms to remove the two MPs from the chamber and take them to the bar of the House for disciplinary action. He said the House would not continue its business in the presence of what he described as strangers.
He also said the two should not be addressed as honourable because of their conduct.
The confrontation between the lawmakers had erupted on October 10, 2017, after a bitter exchange of words.
Babu, who was dressed in a light brown suit, and Jaguar, in a blue suit, walked out as ordered. Minutes later, they returned and offered verbal apologies.
Jaguar said,
“I shall always abide by the responsibilities of leadership set out in the Constitution,”
Babu also apologised, but Cheboi initially dismissed his remarks as a joke and asked him to repeat them. Babu then said,
“I tender my unreserved apologies to the members for having acted in a manner that did not bring honour, respect and dignity to this house.”
He added,
“I will always abide by the responsibilities of leadership set out in the Constitution,”
