Road users along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway confronted a traffic officer on Wednesday afternoon after accusing him of collecting bribes from motorists on the route.
The group overpowered the officer and took the cash he had allegedly collected that day.
They then shared the money among themselves, according to the report.
Online reaction to the incident was largely supportive, with many users praising the motorists and warning other traffic officers accused of similar conduct.
