Nairobi county has ordered the demolition of a seven-storey building along Kayole Spine Road after the structure at Bee Centre, Umoja, drew public concern over its condition.
Images of the building circulated widely on social media on Wednesday, with the block described as visibly faulty.
The county issued an enforcement notice on November 9 directing the developer to pull down the building and submit a structural integrity report within seven days. The notice also required an immediate halt to further construction and demanded architectural and structural plans.
The deadline expired on Wednesday, November 16.
The action comes as Nairobi’s wider demolition campaign against unsafe buildings and developments on riparian land has slowed because of a lack of funds.
Earlier demolitions in the city included Airgate Centre, also known as Taj Mall, in Embakasi, South End Mall on Langata Road, Ukay Centre and part of Oshwal Centre in Westlands. Walls of several residential apartments in Kileleshwa were also brought down.
