Nyali Golf View Residence is set to be unveiled in Nyali this weekend, marking one of the most visible additions to the area’s skyline. The 13-storey residential block began construction in August 2013.
Benedict Mutuku, chief executive of Goldwyne Consult, said the project took time because the developers wanted to avoid construction risks and maintain high standards.
He said the building includes an infinity pool on the 12th floor, viewing decks on the 12th and 13th floors, furnished and unfurnished units, and a total of 64 apartments plus one presidential penthouse suite. The property also has two- and three-bedroom duplexes, each with a semi-detached guest wing.
Mutuku said the residence was already about 85 per cent occupied, with short-stay guests among those booking in ahead of the Christmas and New Year period.
The project reflects a wider shift in the tourism and hospitality sector toward serviced apartments. Kenya Tourism Board chief executive and managing director Dr Betty Radier said the growth is being driven by business travellers and families looking for alternatives for both long and short stays.
Julius Owino, chief executive of the Kenya Coast Tourist Association, said leisure and business travellers increasingly want hotel alternatives that allow them to live, work and feel at home. He added that serviced apartments are meeting demand for accommodation that offers greater comfort than standard hotels.
Owino also noted that the model is not unique to Kenya, pointing to South Africa, Northern Ireland and Australia as countries that have embraced serviced apartment accommodation.
