Nation Media Group has picked up four nominations in the 2018 African Digital Media Awards, a shortlist that places several of its digital products among the continent’s finalists.
The awards are run by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, better known as WAN-IFRA. Winners of the African competition automatically move on to the World Digital Media Awards.
Among NMG’s shortlisted entries, Nairobi News will compete with the Daily Nation sports section in the Best in Lifestyle, Sports, Entertainment Website or Mobile Service category. The group’s LIT360 programme, which features interviews with local and international celebrities, bands, actors and fashion designers, is in the running for Best in Social Media Engagement.
The company’s Airtel Case Study has also been shortlisted for Best Digital Marketing Campaign.
WAN-IFRA said the 2018 shortlist reflected a strong mix of established media houses and newer digital players. Nick Tjaardstra, the organisation’s Director Europe & Africa, said the awards had grown over the previous three years and noted that some past winners had gone on to take world honours.
The ceremony is set for Capital on the Park Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, on November 23, 2018.
Media organisations from six countries made the shortlist. This year’s competition also introduced three new categories: Best Reader Revenue Initiative, Best Branded Content Project and Best Digital News Startup.
Other finalists included BBC, Independent Media, 24.com, South Africa Media Innovation Program, Tiso Blackstar Group (Pty) Ltd, Media24, Moroccan News Agency and Media Trust (Daily Trust) in Nigeria.
