On November 22, 2018, U.S. stocks staged a partial recovery after a punishing two-day selloff, with energy and technology shares helping the S&P 500 close higher. The advance faded late in the session as Apple gave back earlier gains ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
In New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished unchanged. The S&P 500 rose 8.04 points, or 0.30 percent, to 2,649.93, while the Nasdaq Composite added 63.43 points, or 0.92 percent, to 6,972.25.
The session reflected a market that found support in beaten-down sectors but still struggled to sustain momentum into the close. Apple’s reversal was enough to cap a stronger finish, even as broader technology and energy names led the rebound.
