Governor Okoth Obado has carried out a cabinet reshuffle in Migori County, saying the changes are meant to improve service delivery to residents. The announcement was made on Tuesday, November 22, 2018, through the county director of communication, Nicholas Anyuor.
Under the new arrangement, Elijah Ngambere was appointed chief officer in the Agriculture Department and will serve under Valentine Ogongo, the county executive committee member. Samuel Omuga took over as Finance chief officer, while Scholarstica Obiro kept her role as the CEC.
In Health, Iscaa Oluoch and chief officer Dalmas Oyugi were retained. Rebecca Ghati also kept her position in Water and Energy, while Edward Kabaka Ochenge was named chief officer to replace Donald Jaleny.
The Roads docket remained unchanged, with Moses Chamwada and Samuel Onyango retained as the CEC and chief officer respectively. In Lands, Elija Odhiambo, who had been serving as acting minister for the Public Service Board, was moved to the CEC position, and Roseline Otieno was named the new chief officer.
Education also saw a change at the top. Samson Maginga was appointed Education CEC, replacing Lazarus Ogutu, who was facing corruption charges at the time. Mary Midida was named chief officer in the department.
Trade CEC Elizabeth Ochai was replaced by Sheila Ghati Mwita, while Joshua Ngawala remained the chief officer in Environment. Christopher Rusana continued to serve as county secretary.
Anyuor said the purpose of the changes was straightforward: “The main aim of the government is to improve service delivery to Migori County people,” said Mr Anyuor.
Ochai, however, said she had not received any formal notice from the executive when she spoke to The Standard. “Well, I have not received any communication. Remember the governor is the appointing authority and he decides who to work with. I don’t think I would say much,” she said.
