On July 18, 2019, Nairobi County announced plans to introduce a digital system for paying clamping charges.

According to Tom Tinega, the County Director of Parking, the new system will allow motorists to pay clamping penalties electronically using a short code.

Motorists will dial 235# and follow the options available to make the payment, which will be captured in the new system.

Once a vehicle has been clamped, the system will show the penalty amount and allow the motorist to make the payment.

After payment, a message will be sent to the parking attendant's phone confirming the payment, and the vehicle will be unclamped.

City Hall is currently piloting the new system and plans to equip all parking attendants with smartphones by the end of the month.
