On 21 November 2018, prosecutors in the United Arab Emirates said a Moroccan woman in her 30s killed her boyfriend and later served parts of his remains to Pakistani workers near her home in Al Ain.
The case came to light only after the victim’s brother went to the couple’s home in the border city and found a human tooth inside a blender. He reported his brother missing, and police later used DNA testing to confirm the tooth belonged to the victim.
According to state-owned newspaper The National, the woman had been in a relationship with the man for seven years. The paper said she killed him after he told her he planned to marry another woman from Morocco.
Police did not disclose how the man was killed. They said the girlfriend then prepared his remains as part of a traditional rice and meat dish, known as machboos, and served it to some Pakistani nationals working nearby.
Investigators said the woman initially told the brother that she had thrown the victim out of the house. Dubai-based Gulf News later reported that she broke down and admitted the killing during police questioning, describing it as a moment of “insanity”.
She also reportedly said she had asked a friend to help clean up the apartment after the killing. The accused was said to have been sent for mental health checks while the investigation continued and she awaited trial.
Al Ain, where the discovery was made, sits on the border with Oman.
