Three political activists were beheaded at the weekend while campaigning for DR Congo’s pro-government presidential candidate Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary, according to family members and party officials.

The killings took place on Saturday in the troubled Kasai province, where members of President Joseph Kabila’s People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy were on the campaign trail ahead of the December 23 election. The account was given by the son of one of the victims.
