On Wednesday, November 21, 2018, Nyakundi Report noted that police had arrested suspects described as the masterminds behind daylight muggings in Nairobi’s CBD.
The men were said to operate around banks and Mpesa shops, where they allegedly watched for victims before striking. According to the report, the group of three moved through the city centre looking for people leaving financial institutions and other busy spots.
One of the suspects was identified as Godfrey Sangare Ambani. He was first arrested on October 19 after CCTV allegedly captured him robbing a man who had just stepped out of a bank.
The report said Ambani was later released on bond, but instead of stopping the attacks, he allegedly returned to the same mugging pattern before being arrested again.
Nyakundi Report also published photos of the three suspects it described as the people behind the Nairobi CBD muggings.
The arrests came as concern over street robberies in the capital’s central business district continued to draw attention, especially incidents targeting people near banks and mobile money outlets.
