On Wednesday, November 21, 2018, the Kenya Revenue Authority said it was preparing to auction a Prado linked to former Starehe Member of Parliament Bishop Margaret Wanjiru after the vehicle remained uncollected at the Mombasa port.
The car was included in a wider batch of 568 vehicles that had overstayed at the port because the owners had not completed payment and clearance requirements. KRA said the goods would only be released if they were entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Kilindini, within 30 days.
In the notice, Port Operations Chief Manager Joseph Kaguru warned that the vehicles would otherwise be sold by public auction. He said the cars would be viewed on December 17 and 18 before the planned sale on December 19, 2018.
“Notice is given that unless the goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Kilindini within 30 days of this notice, they will be sold by public auction on 19th December, 2018,” says Mr. Kaguru.
The development came as Wanjiru, who had also sought the Nairobi governorship, was still being associated with her failed bid for the Jubilee Party ticket, which was won by Mike Sonko in the nomination race.
