On November 21, 2018, the National Assembly moved to discipline Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Starehe MP Charles Njagua, also known as Jaguar, over their physical confrontation inside Parliament.
The House’s Powers and Privileges Committee said the two lawmakers behaved in a way that undermined the dignity and integrity of Parliament. The committee’s position followed the altercation that took place on October 10, 2017 within parliamentary premises.
The clash erupted after Owino referred to President Uhuru Kenyatta as the head of a caretaker government and said that his reign “will end soon.” A heated exchange followed, with Owino insisting that he would not recognise President Kenyatta’s legitimacy.
The confrontation between the two first-time parliamentarians drew widespread reaction, with many Kenyans condemning their conduct and describing the incident as shameful.
