On 2018-11-21, Kagwe Mungai released a new track titled Clubbin, a song built around the energy and chaos of a night out in Nairobi.
The record takes clear inspiration from the original Clubbin’ by Marques Houston featuring Joe Budden, which was originally produced by R. Kelly. In this version, Kagwe leans into local nightlife culture and turns the city’s club circuit into the centre of the song.
The accompanying video is made up of nightlife scenes and club footage from around Nairobi, giving the release a visual focus that matches the theme of the track.
Several names are mentioned in the song, including Joe Muchiri, Huddah Monroe, DJ Mix Master Lenny and DJ Protégé. Kagwe also references a number of Nairobi entertainment spots such as Kiza, 1824, Jikoni’s and Alchemist.
The release adds to Kagwe Mungai’s growing catalogue, with earlier songs such as Superseena, Till the End and Baas already receiving heavy rotation on radio stations in Kenya and across Africa.
