Joseph Irungu, widely known as Jowie, has been transferred from Industrial Area Prison remand to Kamiti Maximum Prison, a move that placed him in one of Kenya’s toughest correctional facilities.

The development was confirmed by his close friend Joe Muchiri, who said he had visited Jowie and found the prison environment far more severe. In a post shared on Twitter on November 20, 2018, Muchiri wrote:

Kamiti is not a joke?? — JoeWMuchiri (@JoeWMuchiri1) November 20, 2018

Muchiri said the facility was no place for comfort, adding that Jowie was struggling to adapt to the stricter rules and harsher conditions at Kamiti compared with Industrial Area Prison remand, where he had been held for more than a month.

The prison is known for housing hardcore criminals, and the transfer appeared to mark a difficult new phase for Jowie as he adjusted to maximum-security custody.

Meanwhile, TV journalist Jacque Maribe, described in the source as Jowie’s fiancée, appeared to be resuming normal public life. The article said she travelled to Samburu the previous Saturday to attend Hon Naisula Lessuda’s wedding alongside Hon Moses Kuria.

The source also noted that while Jowie remained in custody, Maribe was “settling in well” and Itumbi was “still cooling off at the bench” as Moses Kuria took centre stage.
