Nakuru GK Prisons inmate Solomon Ngatia has emerged among the notable candidates in the just released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education results after scoring 403 marks while serving a 30-year jail term.
Ngatia, who is 37 years old, said he had been a class seven dropout before his conviction in 2012 for attempted murder. His result has drawn attention because it came from inside prison, where he sat for the exam under supervision at the facility.
According to KTN News, Ngatia said he was surprised by the outcome and credited the teachers at the prison for helping him prepare. He said the score exceeded what he had expected.
“I am happy, this however, is beyond my expectation, despite the condition here I emerged the best.”
He added that he wants to proceed to secondary school and keep working toward his ambition of becoming a doctor.
The report also noted that the prison education effort gave him a second chance to continue his studies despite his sentence. Nyakundi Report wishes him well as he pursues the next stage of his education.
