On Wednesday November 21, 2018, a video of a Nairobi school bus carrying pupils in dangerous fashion triggered public anger after it showed traffic rules being ignored in broad daylight during KCPE celebrations.
The bus was identified in the clip as belonging to Kiriath-Jiam School in Utawala, Nairobi. In the footage, pupils are seen riding from the outside of the vehicle and hanging precariously as it moved along the road.
The incident drew criticism because it came at a time when authorities were already enforcing the Michuki rules through a crackdown on matatus and other road users. Viewers of the video called for investigative agencies to step in and take action against those responsible, including the school and the bus driver.
According to the account attached to the clip, the incident happened the previous day in daylight and was recorded by a person travelling in a private car behind the bus.
