Betty Kyallo turned a routine promotional tweet into a viral exchange on November 20, 2018, after a follower tried to mock her over services at her beauty parlour, Flair By Betty.
The TV presenter had invited people to visit the business, saying: “Good morning, friends, family and frenemies I hope to See you later at @FlairByBetty … I bet you could do with a haircut, manicure or pedicure. See you later? Great!”
One user asked what could be offered for Sh50, writing: “Ni service gani naezapata na chwani apo @FlairByBetty?” Kyallo answered with an image of an old, cellotaped Sh50 note and used the word “Crimino,” a term linked to nominated Nairobi MCA.
The exchange escalated after another user fired back with a taunt: “Siku hizi uko idle aje hadi unaengage masmallwigs huku? Kwani 001 anarudia KCSE?” Kyallo responded with a line that shifted the tone of the thread immediately: “Niko kwa bank nangoja pesa zihesabiwe… wewe je brathe? Nguo zimekauka ama jua kidogo shida?”
The back-and-forth continued to attract reactions from other Twitter users, including one who wrote “leave me a loan.” The posts were shared widely as Kyallo’s response dominated the conversation.
Kyallo’s online exchange came as her personal life and relationships remained a subject of public attention, while she continued building her profile after leaving KTN and preparing for her move to K24.
