Italian volunteer kidnapped in Chakama attack as five residents are injured

On 21 November 2018, an Italian volunteer was kidnapped after gunmen attacked Chakama trading centre in Kilifi County, leaving five local residents injured.

Police said the assault happened at about 8pm when the attackers stormed the village and fired into the air at the trading centre. The woman taken was identified as a 23-year-old Italian volunteer working with Africa Milele Onlus, an NGO active in the coastal region.

Five people were hurt in the incident, among them three minors. One boy was shot in the eye, and the injured were rushed to hospital early Wednesday morning in critical condition.
