Italian Volunteer Abducted In Chakama As Five Injured In Kilifi Night Attack

On 21 November 2018, gunmen attacked a children’s home in Chakama, Kilifi County, leaving five people injured and abducting an Italian volunteer, police said.

The victim was identified in a police report as Sylivia Constanca, 23, described as a volunteer with Africa Milele Onlus, an NGO operating in the area. The attack happened at night, and the injured were later taken to Malindi Sub County Hospital on Wednesday morning.

Police said one of the survivors was in critical condition after a bullet remained lodged in the head. Witnesses said some of the injured were hit while trying to rescue the kidnapped Italian woman.

Security officers were still pursuing the attackers as tension remained high in the area on Wednesday morning. Police also appealed to members of the public to report any sighting of the suspects or the abducted woman to the nearest police station.
