Italian volunteer abducted as five injured in Chakama children’s home attack in Kilifi

Unknown gunmen attacked a children’s home in Chakama, Kilifi County, at night, leaving five people injured and abducting an Italian volunteer identified by police as Sylivia Constanca.

The incident was reported on 2018-11-21, and by Wednesday morning the injured had been taken to Malindi Sub County Hospital. The victims were said to be between 12 and 23 years old, while one survivor remained in critical condition with a bullet still lodged in the head.

Police said the abducted woman was “an Italian lady known as Sylivia Constanca aged 23 years, a volunteer of Africa Milele Onlus, an NGO operating in the area.”

According to eyewitnesses, some of the people who were shot were trying to rescue the kidnapped Italian. The area remained tense as police pursued the attackers.

Police also appealed to residents to report any sighting of the suspects or the abducted woman to the nearest police station.

“We appeal to members of the public in the area to report promptly to the nearest police station should they sight the criminals with the abducted lady,” police said.
