Reports around Kenyan international midfielder McDonald Mariga’s love life have shifted back to marriage, with a family source saying the footballer is preparing to wed his longtime girlfriend Kenisha in Spain in 2019.
The source, quoted by the Star, said Mariga and Kenisha already have a daughter together and added that his younger brother, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama, will be the best man.
The marriage talk resurfaced after speculation linked Mariga to television presenter Joey Muthengi. The two have both served as brand ambassadors for betting firm Betin and were featured as husband and wife in one of the company’s adverts.
Muthengi, formerly of Citizen TV, had also joked about dating the 31-year-old footballer, which fueled public chatter that the pair were an item.
But the family member dismissed that narrative and insisted the wedding plans involve Kenisha, not Muthengi. The source was also quoted saying, “I’m not sure why Joey has been lying to Kenyans and her fans.”
Mariga had hinted years earlier that marriage was on the horizon, saying, “I can’t tell you exactly when at the moment, but it will be soon. It’s every family’s joy to see one of their own get married,” according to the earlier remarks cited in the report.
The wedding location, the 2019 timeline, and Wanyama’s role as best man were all presented as family information rather than an official announcement from Mariga himself.
