Mathew Sawe, a two-time African High Jump champion, is gearing up for the 10th stop of the IAAF Diamond League Series in London over the weekend.
Having registered his season best of 2:28m in the sixth round held in Rabat last month, Sawe is now looking to improve on that mark.
His personal best of 2:30m is a target he hopes to surpass at the London meet, which will serve as a crucial preparation for the African Games set for 19-31 August in Rabat, Morocco.
“I want to improve on the current season's best; 2:28 is good but not good enough,” Sawe told Citizen Digital in a recent interview.
With stiff competition expected from Yu Wang of China and Majd Eddin Ghazal of Syria, both with a season's best of 2:31, Sawe is set to depart the country tomorrow for the two-day meet in London.
He has been in training in France this year and is now looking to take his skills to the next level.
“A 2:33 would be perfect for me,” Sawe noted, adding that he is confident in his abilities to achieve his target.
