Fresh claims around McDonald Mariga’s love life have been met with a firm denial from a family source, who says the footballer is not headed to the altar with Joey Muthengi.
According to the source, Mariga is instead preparing for a wedding in Spain in summer 2019 with the woman described as the mother of his daughter, Kenisha. The same source said his younger brother, Victor Wanyama, is expected to serve as best man.
The family member rejected suggestions that Joey Muthengi has ever been in a relationship with the former Harambee Stars midfielder. “I’m not sure why Joey has been lying to Kenyans and her fans,” the source, who asked not to be named, said.
The row appears to have been fuelled in part by comments Joey made in an interview with SDE, where she said she would be travelling to Milan, Italy, in January for a break. She said, “Well, I will be moving to Italy in January for holiday. I think I need to get a good break for myself and so I can confirm to you that I will be in Milan for a while. The BetIn deal, whose shoot was in Italy, opened doors for me and given a chance I would still work with them,” and added, “I don’t know where this (relationship) will take us. Ask Mariga.”
The source insisted the Italy trip was work-related and not a romantic getaway with Mariga. Another source was quoted saying, “I met him on his last holiday in July with the sister Cynthia, his wife-to-be and kid in hand. Joey should come clean about the ‘relationship’. Using his fame for her own personal gain is wrong.”
Attempts to reach Joey Muthengi for comment were unsuccessful, with numerous calls and messages going unanswered.
