On Tuesday, November 20, 2018, Joseph Irungu, widely known as Jowie, was moved from Industrial Area Remand to Kamiti Maximum Prison as the Monica Kimani murder case continued to draw intense public attention.
The transfer came after Justice Wakiaga denied him bail. In the ruling, the judge described Jowie as “a woman eater and a male version of a slay queen who depends on women for survival.”
According to well-placed sources, the move to Kamiti was meant to allow for “maximum monitoring.” The development followed reports that, about a week earlier, Jowie had been seen at Kenyatta National Hospital seeking medical attention and appearing disturbed.
He was said to have been under heavy security during that hospital visit, with armed police officers and prison wardens escorting him.
After the transfer, Jowie’s close friend and city socialite Joe Muchiri shared a photo on Instagram from Kamiti and wrote, “Not a happy birthday for Jowie. Sigh”. His location tag indicated that he was at Kamiti Prison.
The case centered on the killing of businesswoman Monica Kimani, with Jowie identified in the report as the main suspect.
