On 2018-11-20, a KCPE candidate from Baringo North emerged with 209 marks after sitting her exam in hospital shortly after giving birth, but her social studies result was not included in the release.
The pupil from Kaptere Primary School delivered at Kabartonjo Subcounty Hospital hours before the examination. She said social studies was her favourite subject and believed she should have done better, adding that the missing paper denied her a higher score.
Headteacher Isaiah Chongwo said the paper may have been misplaced during collection and transport. He said he had already written to the Ministry of Education asking it to investigate and trace the script for marking.
Chongwo also said the girl’s performance should have been stronger if not for the interruption. He described her as index three out of 23 candidates and said her hard work had led him to expect more than 300 marks.
Elsewhere in Baringo county, Patience Jelagat of Greenview Academy in Eldama Ravine subcounty led the county with 430 marks. She thanked her parents and teachers for helping her excel in the 2018 exams.
Kemei Kipchirchir of Neswin Academy in Eldama Ravine scored 415 marks, while Bett Neema of Crescent Academy in Mogotio posted 420 marks.
Little Friend's Academy in Mogotio subcounty also recorded a strong showing, with 12 candidates scoring above 400 marks. They were Ogola Otieno (421), Rotich Alvin (420), Kirui Elvis (416), Kiplagat Rayan (415), Kiplagat Victor (413), Kiptanui Joy (406), Keitany Nixon (406), Chumba Bonny (404), Biwott Martin (403), Babra Jepkemoi (403), Vivian Jepchumba (401) and Kiprono Edwin (401).
At King's Hill Academy in Kabarnet town, Silas Kibet topped the school with 421 marks. The 13-year-old from Kaptimbor said he hoped to study software engineering. Anita Biwott, his schoolmate, scored 415 marks.
Victor Kemboi of St Joseph Academy Kituro scored 423 marks, while Sheilah Jerop got 406. School chairman Daniel Cheboi said the institution had improved its mean score to 351 from 338 the previous year.
