Deputy President William Ruto on November 20, 2018 told politicians eyeing the presidency in 2022 to be prepared to accept defeat if the vote goes against them.
He made the remarks in Narok during the launch of universal health care, where he pushed back against claims that his countrywide development tours were meant to build a 2022 campaign platform. Ruto said he was entitled to serve all Kenyans and insisted that the trips should not be reduced to politics.
The deputy president argued that 2022 was still four years away and urged his critics to concentrate on development issues instead of what he described as empty politicking.
He also warned provincial administrators against inciting members of the public against one another, saying anyone found culpable would face the law.
Ruto was accompanied by Narok Governor Samuel Ole Tunai, Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso and other leaders.
