On Tuesday, 20 November 2018, ODM moved to correct what it called an inaccurate Standard newspaper report about the party’s disciplinary process involving rebel members, including two sitting Members of Parliament.
In a statement signed by Director of Communications Philip Etale, the party said the disciplinary committee had not completed its work and had not issued a final report. According to ODM, any recommendations from the committee must first go to the National Executive Committee, where the Party Leader is only one member, before a decision can be made.
The party rejected the suggestion that the Party Leader could single-handedly determine the outcome of the committee’s recommendations. It said that position was contrary to the party constitution and described the reporting as indecorous and incorrect.
ODM further said the matter touching on the rebel members had only reached the stage of summons to appear before the committee and show cause why they should not be disciplined for gross misconduct. The party insisted that no final disciplinary action had been taken.
Etale concluded the statement by saying the story was speculative, incorrect and fabricated, and urged the public to ignore it.
