Published on July 18, 2019, the Kenya national men's basketball team is set to return to the Africa Nations Championships after a 30-year absence.

The team, known as the Morans, will face off against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the opening match of the tournament, which tips off in Bamako, Mali on Friday afternoon at 7:00 PM EAT.

Kenya last featured in the championships in 1989, and the team's return is a significant milestone for the country's basketball enthusiasts.

The Morans are in Group 'B' alongside Nigeria, and the team's treasurer, Peter Orero, expressed confidence in their chances, saying they were in high spirits and had predicted a good outing.

"We were the first team to arrive in Bamako on Tuesday afternoon and have had two training sessions which is good for the team," Orero said.

The team's coach, Cliff Owuor, also expressed optimism, citing the addition of four new players, Victor Odendo, Fidel Okoth, Victor Bosire, and Faheem Mohammed, who he believed would add the much-needed depth to the team.

The team's schedule includes a match against Nigeria on Saturday at 11:30 PM EAT.
