Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has been named ambassador of Africans Rising, the pan-African movement focused on justice and social change across the continent.
In a tweet posted on November 20, 2018, Mwangi said his first assignment would be in Gambia, followed by travel to Tanzania in early December and later visits to Nigeria and Ghana mid-month.

Mwangi, who contested the Starehe parliamentary seat in the 2017 elections and did not win, has remained one of Kenya’s most outspoken campaigners on political and social issues.
The appointment came days after he was briefly detained and blocked from attending the National Youth Service pass out parade in Gilgil, an event presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
His new role places him in a wider regional advocacy circuit at a time when his activism continues to draw attention in Kenya and beyond.
