On November 20, 2018, Nyakundi Report notes that the family of slain Meru schoolgirl Maribel Kapolon has received a small measure of relief after her brother, Brian Kapolon Lomoni, posted strong KCPE results.
Brian scored 428 marks out of 500 in the just released examination results, a performance that stands out against the painful backdrop of his sister’s death.
Maribel, who was 9 years old, went missing on September 6 after being kidnapped along Total Road in Meru, near the county commander’s office and close to the county commissioner’s residence.
Witnesses said she had been dropped by the school bus and was heading home when a stranger invited her into a car. She is said to have believed the person was familiar before she was taken away.
Her body was later dumped in a forest, deepening the shock that followed the killing of Caroline Kemei’s daughter, Caroline Kemei being the senior resident magistrate at the Meru law court.
Maribel left behind her mother and brother, and the family’s grief has remained in the public eye since the incident.
Brian’s result has been received as a bright moment for the household, even as the circumstances surrounding Maribel’s murder remain a source of anguish.
