Kenyan international midfielder McDonald Mariga is expected to marry his longtime girlfriend Kenisha in Spain in 2019, according to a family source quoted by The Star. The report also said his younger brother, Victor Wanyama, will serve as best man.
The clarification came after renewed chatter linking Mariga to former Citizen TV presenter Joey Muthengi, a pairing that had been fuelled in part by their joint work as brand ambassadors for betting firm Betin. The two had also appeared as husband and wife in one of the company’s adverts, which helped keep the rumours alive.
The family member said Mariga already has a daughter with Kenisha, described in the report as a mixed-race woman, and insisted the wedding plans were real. The source also dismissed the speculation around Muthengi, saying: “I’m not sure why Joey has been lying to Kenyans and her fans.”
Muthengi, for her part, told Pulse that she would be travelling to Italy in January 2019 for a vacation and possibly another Betin shoot with Mariga. She said the deal had opened doors for her and added, “I don’t know where this relationship will take us. Ask Mariga.”
The remarks left the public with two competing narratives: a family-backed claim that Mariga’s wedding plans were fixed for 2019 in Spain, and Muthengi’s own suggestion that the Betin partnership was simply a professional one that could continue into 2019.
