Published on July 18, 2019, Kwale Girls, the reigning East African football champions, have been disqualified from this year's National School Games after fielding ineligible players during the Regional Games.

Ida Atieno, Ludia Aoko Ogutu, and Joy Kinglady Orio, who had recently transferred to Kwale Girls, were not eligible to play until the following year, according to the Coast Region Kenya Secondary School Sports Association Secretary General Omar Munga.

"The laws of the game are clear. If you take two or more students from the same school as your new players, they should not play until the following year," Munga explained in an interview with Citizen Digital.

Despite being disqualified, the losing finalists, St. Johns Kaloleni, have been selected to represent the Coast Region at the upcoming National Games set for July 29 – August 3 in Kisumu.

Kwale Girls' coach, Mukasa Amboko, expressed uncertainty about the team's disqualification, stating that they had not received any official communication from the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association.
