On 20 November 2018, KCB Bank confirmed it would headline the Kenya Volleyball Federation national play-offs, giving the tournament a new name and a Sh1 million boost for prize money and preparations.
The competition was set for Kasarani Indoor Arena from 1 December to 3 December 2018, with the opening ceremony scheduled for Saturday, 1 December, before three days of matches.
During the cheque handover at the Indoor Arena, KCB Group Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Judith Sidi Odhiambo, who also serves as patron of the KCB ladies’ volleyball team, said the bank wanted teams to push for strong performances in the annual event.
“We are excited to sponsor this year’s KVF play offs, a testament of our commitment to sports development in the region, we wish all the teams the best of luck as they battle for the continental tickets “said Judith.
Kenya Volleyball Federation president Waithaka Kioni welcomed the sponsorship and said the partnership would help strengthen competition in the league.
“We are very much grateful to KCB Bank for the huge boost towards the staging of this year’s event, KCB has produced some of the country’s best talent in volleyball and we look forward to other areas of collaborations in the future” said Waithaka.
The women’s draw included Kenya Prisons, KCB, Kenya Pipeline and Bungoma, while the men’s side featured Prisons Kenya, KDF, KPA and GSU.
KDF men were due to meet Kenya Prisons men in the opening fixture on Saturday morning, before KCB ladies faced Kenya Prisons.
The winners in each category were to represent Kenya at the 2019 Africa club Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
