On 2018-11-20, Dr Susan Akello Mboya pushed back against the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), saying investigators had wrongly treated her as if she were part of former Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero’s property.
In an affidavit filed in a Nairobi court, Dr Mboya said the commission had handled her as “an appendage” of Kidero even though she is “a separate legal entity and person entitled to own property without attachment to Kidero.”
The complaint came after EACC detectives raided the couple’s home as part of a probe into Kidero’s source of wealth. The search also drew Dr Mboya into the investigation, something she says went too far.
She told the court that officers seized documents and other personal items during the raids, including materials she says had nothing to do with her husband’s affairs.
Dr Mboya also maintained that some of the properties under scrutiny were acquired before she married Kidero. She described herself as “a professional lady of international standing with a substantial income of my own and not just a mere appendage and property of Kidero who is a dependent spouse as portrayed.”
Dr Mboya has been married to the former CEO of Mumias Sugar Company for seven years.
