Citizen TV has launched a new current affairs programme, News Gang, bringing together some of its best-known newsroom figures for a Thursday debut.

The announcement was made on Monday evening, November 19, 2018, through the station’s official Twitter account. The panel includes Strategy and Innovation Director Linus Kaikai, Editorial Director Joe Ageyo, Managing Editor (Swahili) Jamila Mohamed, Political Editor Francis Gachuri and senior news anchor Yvonne Okwara.

Every story has its beginnings but some stories get forgotten, others distorted while more others never end... Starting this Thursday, #NewsGang puts it all into perspective with informed and balanced accounts from @Fchurii @YvonneOkwara @JamilaMohamed @jageyo @LinusKaikai pic.twitter.com/c3VtjAJs64 — Citizen TV Kenya (@citizentvkenya) November 19, 2018

The show is being positioned as a way for Citizen TV to make fuller use of its on-air talent after high-profile moves from rival stations. Kaikai, Ageyo and Okwara had previously built their reputations at KTN and NTV before joining the Royal Media Services-owned station in 2018.

Okwara’s earlier work at KTN included hosting the Sunday night programme Checkpoint, where she led hard-edged discussions on the week’s biggest stories. Some viewers welcomed the new line-up, while others argued the station should widen the panel to include Hussein Mohammed, who is also widely regarded as a strong interviewer.

One critic wrote: “@YvonneOkwara so sad that your potential is so being wasted. You were super awesome in @KTNKenya,” he tweeted.
