Bitcoin slid more than 7.5 percent on Tuesday, dropping below $4,500 as a broad selloff in digital assets gathered pace. The move left the world’s best-known cryptocurrency down nearly a third over the previous week.
The report was published on November 20, 2018. At the time, bitcoin was trading at $4,354.20 on Bitstamp, its weakest level on that exchange since October 2017.
Other major cryptocurrencies were caught in the same downturn. Ethereum’s ether fell 10 percent, while Ripple’s XRP lost 13 percent in what was described as a largely sentiment-driven slide.
The decline underscored how quickly losses were spreading across the market in 2018, with traders reacting to weakening confidence rather than any single catalyst.
