On 20 November 2018, police in Murang’a County arrested five Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education candidates and two invigilators at Maragua Muslim Girls School after mobile phones were found inside the examination centre.
The arrests came during the Physics paper, when officers stationed at the centre became suspicious and searched the candidates. Five phones were recovered during the frisking, according to the report.
Murang’a County Commissioner John Elung’ata confirmed the incident and urged exam administrators not to work with students in any form of examination malpractice. He said the multi-agency teams deployed at examination centres were on alert to stop unauthorized activity during the exams.
The seven suspects were being held at Maragua Police Station as investigations continued, with arraignment expected after the probe is completed.
