Nyakundi Report notes that on 20 November 2018, the second annual Greek food festival was held at SOKO restaurant inside DusitD2 Nairobi, bringing Greek dishes, drinks and live entertainment to the hotel.
The week-long promotion featured a buffet dinner priced at KES 2,500, with a shot of ouzo included. Guests were offered a menu built around Greek staples such as shrimp saganaki, fava beans with caper leaves, Greek salad, moussaka, chicken stew with tarhana and galaktobouriko.
Among the dishes highlighted was the fava beans preparation, described as standing out because of the caper leaves, while moussaka was presented as one of the more comforting options on the menu. The event also included wines and the traditional Greek drink ouzo.
The food was prepared by two executive chefs, both named George: Chef Giorgio Papadopoulos and Chef George Dospras. They were flown in by official sponsor Qatar Airways.
Papadopoulos was said to have spent 25 years working across several hospitality brands, including Excelsior Hotel Thessaloniki, Semeli Mountain Resort, Sani Beach Hotel, Kempinski Hotel, Macedonia, Bristol Hotel and the Domotel brand, where he served as executive chef for all seven hotels. He was then the executive chef at the Five Star Pomegranate Wellness Spa Hotel in Greece.
Dospras was described as having 16 years of experience, with work history at Semeli Mountain Hotel, Lindian Village Resort, Excelsior Hotel, Chromata Up-Style Hotel and Katikies Hotel. He was working alongside Papadopoulos at Pomegranate Wellness Spa Hotel in Greece.
Entertainment for the night came from Angelos Christopoulos, who was set to perform live traditional music. Organizers also warned guests to expect repeated chants of “Opa” as the evening progressed, although plate-breaking was not part of the program this time.
The festival ran for a week at SOKO Restaurant, with service from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.
