On 20 November 2018, Betty Kyallo responded publicly after a social media critic attacked her over comments linked to Hassan and told her to “seek help.” The exchange followed renewed attention on Betty’s relationship history and a post she shared from a restaurant.

Betty had earlier spoken to True Love about how she and Hassan became close in May 2016. In the interview, she said they connected because they were both going through separations at the time and found comfort in that shared experience.

“It wasn’t until May (2016) that I became close to Hassan. He was going through the same thing, a separation, and we connected on that level. We tried to have something and it gave me comfort because we understood where we were with each other. He was easy to talk to, hang out and have fun with”

The online row escalated after Betty posted a photo of herself smiling in a restaurant with a caption joking about being asked, “sweety hujashiba?” while on a date. A user identified as Mbuvu replied that Betty was “yet to move on” and accused her of trying to show that she was happy in a “ghost relationship.”

Betty’s supporters quickly came to her defence, and she later answered Mbuvu directly. In her reply, she suggested that if the critic knew so much about her life, she should “write a book.”

@bmbuvu?????? weeeuhh now write a book sis?

The article also noted separate attention around Dennis Okari, Betty’s ex and the father of her daughter, after reports that he had married in a secret wedding.
