On 20 November 2018, singer Akothee and blogger Robert Alai were drawn into a public online exchange after a private message about a business proposal turned into a bitter row.
The dispute began when Alai allegedly sent Akothee a direct message asking her to call him because he had “a job” for her. Akothee later shared the message and said she did not understand why he was reaching out to her, especially after earlier criticism in which he had accused her of paying radio stations to play her songs.
In the message attributed to Alai, he wrote: “Hello. Nade Akothee? An tich moro ma akwayo ni igocha wawuoyee. (Hello. I have a job please call me).”
Akothee responded by questioning who he was and why he was contacting her. She wrote: “Robert Alai, the last time I heard about you is when you were insulting politicians.Do I look like a politicians to you? I didn’t even know you are following me until you slid into my Dm begging me to call you, and that you have a job for me.”
Alai then fired back with fresh insults, alleging that Akothee was high on cocaine. He wrote: “Akothee leo Cocaine zake zimemweka kwangu. Nitaimbwa everywhere. Meanwhile, smells just like a fart with no value. LOL.”
The exchange added to a long-running pattern of public clashes involving the two personalities, with both using social media to attack each other directly.
